Aging in Motion

Aging in Motion provides affordable and dependable transportation supports that help seniors to access medical appointments, grocery shopping, and social activities. The program serves seniors 65+ years of age who face barriers with traditional transit due to challenges with income, mobility, and health.

How It Works

Aging in Motion has three components.

  1. Navigating Public Transit- helping seniors understand and feel more comfortable using HandyDart and Public Transit services.
  2. Volunteer Driving Program- recruiting volunteers who help seniors to access medical appointments and essential services for a time-limited period. If a participant needs ongoing transportation support, we actively facilitate referrals to subsidized transportation services with Better at Home and HandyDart.
  3. Bus Outings- helping to create moments of joy and connection for isolated seniors with bus excursions that offer social outings and participation in community events.
This program is funded by the Government of British Columbia and managed by the United Way British Columbia. Seniors Outreach & Resource Centre partners with the Westside Health Network and Lake Country Health to provide services across the Central Okanagan.
