Volunteering at Seniors Outreach & Resource Centre can be a very rewarding way to be actively involved in your community, while also helping older adults stay connected and engaged. Volunteers receive training and on-going support for their role, a quarterly newsletter, and an invitation to our annual volunteer appreciation event.
Please see below for a list of our volunteer opportunities. We ask our volunteers for a minimum of six months commitment.
Friendly Visitor: A volunteer is matched with an individual older adult for a weekly visit. Activities may include having coffee together and talking, a social outing, or going for a walk.
Computer Mentors for Eldernet: Volunteers help older adults learn how to use various technology, such as a computer, iPad, or smart phone. Basic skills are taught on an individual basis and can cover using the internet, writing a document, learning how to print and more.
Coffee Break Host: These volunteers host a weekly, free coffee time when older adults can drop in and meet other people. Coffee break hosts greet newcomers to the group and actively engage people in conversation. Relief Hosts are also needed on an occasional basis when the weekly hosts are away.
Income Tax Preparation Volunteer: Trained volunteers assist limited income individuals with their income tax preparation.
Handyperson: Volunteers assist with minor home repairs for an older adult with limited income on a case-by-case basis.
Board Member: Call for more information.
