Our Story

Seniors Outreach began in 1989 with one simple belief:
no older adult should have to face life’s challenges alone.

Irene Walberg brought together a small group of volunteers to reach out to seniors experiencing isolation and difficult transitions. As more people called for help – with transportation, housing, income, and daily living- the organization was formed and then continued to respond to unmet needs with expanded supports.

1998 — Volunteer Income Tax Program

Started helping older adults to file their taxes to access vital income benefits.

2014 — Better at Home

Introduced affordable, non-medical home support services to help older adults remain independent in their own homes longer.

2019 — Social Prescribing

Strengthened connections with health professionals and expanded lifestyle supports that improve health and social well-being.

2020 — Safe Seniors, Strong Communities

Led a regional response for a provincial initiative that ensured older adults could access food, transportation and social support during the COVID-19 health emergency.

2020 — Seniors Housing Information & Navigation Ease

Joined a collaborative effort that helps older adults dealing with precarious housing to navigate the complex landscape of housing, income assistance and community services.

2023 — Organizational Transformation

Joined with the Kelowna Senior Citizens’ Society of B.C. to consolidate programs, assets and expertise – and build a stronger future for seniors’ services.

2024 — Expanded Social Services

Moved to larger offices in Rutland to support a growing professional team and the greater reach of our home support and social services.

2026 — Grow Bold Campaign

Today, Seniors Outreach is a full-service, social services organization. Our next bold project is The Centre for Creative & Active Aging- a new, welcoming place for older adults and care partners to find connections, support, and opportunities to live healthier, fuller lives.
