Volunteering at Seniors Outreach & Resource Centre is a rewarding way to be actively involved in your community, while also helping older adults stay connected and engaged.
Volunteers receive training and on-going support for their role, a quarterly newsletter, and an invitation to our annual volunteer appreciation event.
Safe Seniors, Strong Communities: Covid-19 Response
With the current pandemic, many seniors are not able to be as independent as they previously were. Our Safe Seniors Strong Communities program is dedicated to offering essential, non-contact services to help seniors. These services include:
- Grocery Shopping and Delivery- our staff completes orders with clients online, and arrange for volunteers to pick up completed orders and drop them off at the client's home.
- Prepared meal delivery- volunteers deliver frozen meals to seniors who are not well enough to cook, to ensure they stay fed while staying isolated.
- Virtual visits- this is an easy, flexible position where we match a volunteer with a senior who is needing social contact. This may also entail having a FaceTime/Zoom/Skype call, should the seniors be able to do so.
- Prescription Delivery- a volunteer picks up pre-paid medications and delivers them to the client’s home
A volunteer is matched with an individual older adult for over the phone or virtual visits.
Income Tax Preparation Volunteer
Trained volunteers assist low-income older adults with simple income tax returns.
Volunteers assist with minor home repairs for an older adult with limited income on a case-by-case basis.
Hosting Social Programs via Zoom or Phone Call
We are looking for interesting people to facilitate social programs for our Seniors' Centre Without Walls and Video Call Programs. If you have a specific skill that lends itself to this platform, or any experience facilitating a group, this may be for you! For more information about what these social programs are about, see Phone Call Programs and Group Video Calls.
Becoming a member of the Seniors Outreach & Resource Centre board is a unique way to serve your local seniors and community. If you are passionate about this demographic and want to contribute to the work our organization is doing here in the Okanagan, consider this position.
